Admittedly, you can never compare homemade sushi with sushi from top restaurants. That being said, it’s really fun to make sushi rolls at home. What’ more, you get almost the same taste as the restaurant sushi, but at a much cheaper price.

Bear in mind, however, that the ingredients you use and the process you follow when making sushi rolls can make an enormous difference.

Use the Right Seaweed

You need the right seaweed to prepare the best sushi. So be sure to acquire the best seaweed you can by checking its name on the package.

You can use any seaweed you like. But the organic ones taste the best and are much healthier.

Next, spread the seaweed across the already prepared sushi rice. Use a rice paddle to flatten the rice.

How to Cut the Fish

To ensure that the sushi rolls look the part, cut the fish fillet straight down with a sharp knife. Next, cut all the pieces into halves, making small strips.

Proceed by placing all your ingredients onto the rice. Pieces of salmon, tuna, cream cheese, cucumber, or avocado will give your sushi a unique taste.

After putting your desired ingredients on the rice, roll them on a mat (bamboo mats are the best for this). A parchment paper will also work, but your rolls won’t be as tight.

Depending on how you want your sushi rolls to look, use a sharp or serrated knife to cut the rolls into pieces.

What to Serve with Your Sushi Rolls

More often than not, you’ll want to serve your sushi with pickled ginger or soy sauce. Of course, if you like it hot, you can also serve them with wasabi sauce.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also serve them alongside seared scallops or honey mixed with walnut.

Now that you’ve made your sushi rolls like a boss, you can unashamedly gobble them down. Enjoy!
